Bring in a supervised injecting room now!
Dear Premier Andrews and Member for Richmond Richard Wynne,
We need a supervised injecting room for the health and safety of our community!
Last year 34 people died from heroin overdoses in the Richmond area, despite us having a way to prevent it.
Supervised injecting rooms save lives — the Sydney facility has never had a fatality in its 16 years of operation.
We also need to keep injecting drug use off the streets for the safety of residents and children in the area. Around 10,000 discarded needles and syringes are collected from footpaths, streets and around homes and schools by the City of Yarra each year.
It’s time to start putting our health and safety first, and urgently bring in a supervised injecting centre in Richmond!
